A Visitor visa (subclass 600) lets you visit Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.
- Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family or friends.
- Business visitor activities may include attending a conference, negotiations or an exploratory business visit.
You cannot work for or provide services to a business or organisation in Australia or sell goods or services to the public. If you are intending to do short-term and non-ongoing work in Australia you should apply for the new Temporary work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400).
See: Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa (subclass 400)
If you are visiting Australia for tourism or business visitor activities and are a holder of an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or eVisitor visa eligible passport, you can consider applying for an ETA or eVisitor visa.

Visitor visa (subclass 600) has four streams:
You must choose the correct stream that is consistent with the purpose of your proposed visit to Australia when you apply for this visa. If you apply for a wrong stream it is highly likely that your application will be refused and you will need to make a new application and pay a new visa application charge.
- Tourist stream: for people travelling to Australia for a holiday, recreation or to visit family and friends. If you apply for this visa in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is decided. If you apply for this visa outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is decided.
See: Tourist stream
- Business Visitor stream: for business people travelling to Australia for a short business visit. This includes going to a conference, negotiation or meeting. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided.
See: Business Visitor stream
The other two streams are Sponsored Family stream and Approved Destination Status (ADS) stream. However, these streams are only applicable for clients in very specific circumstances and cannot be lodged nor processed at the Visa Sections in Seoul and Tokyo.
