Visa Cancellation

Temporary Resident Visa Cancellation

Temporary Resident visas include Student visa, Working Holiday visa, Temporary Work (Skilled) visas etc.

Visa cancellation to claim superannuation benefit

If you intend to cancel your temporary resident visa for the purpose of applying for Superannuation Benefits, you must make your visa cancellation request by completing the relevant section in Form 1194 Certification of immigration status and/or request to cancel a Temporary Residence visa and sending it to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection by email.
See: Form 1194 Certification of immigration status and/or request to cancel a Temporary Residence visa
Email: Super.hobart@border.gov.au

Visa cancellation for other reasons

  • There is no need to cancel your temporary resident visa because you are intending to apply for a subsequent visa. A new visa (other than an ETA) will generally cease any other visa held and come into effect as soon as it is granted.
  • Student visa holders who have ceased or deferred studies are not required to cancel their visas. As long as the education provider has been informed of intention to cease/defer studies, student visa can be left to expire.
  • If you wish to have your student visa cancelled to apply for an ETA, you can instead apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600).
    See: Visitor visa (subclass 600)
