Australian Mathematics Competition Medal Presentation
The 34th Australian Mathematics Competition saw more than 600,000 students in Australia and around the world test their numeracy and advanced problem solving skills.
The aim of the competition is to challenge and encourage students worldwide in the understanding of mathematics and informatics to realise their intellectual potential.
Students from more than 40 countries sat the test in English, French or Chinese in August last year.
Two out of the 80 students to receive medals from Australia and internationally are Korean. A medal is equivalent to at least a standard achieved by 1 in 10,000 students.
Da Yeon Lee of Cheongshim International Academy and Sang Woo Ryoo of Chungbuk Science High School have been awarded medals for their outstanding results.
It is the third successive year Korean students have been awarded a medal and the first time there have been two recipients in the same year. For Sang Woo it is his second straight medal.
The test consists of 30 multiple choice questions ordered in increasing difficulty within a 75 minute timeframe.
Both students had to exercise their problem solving skills to everyday scenarios while displaying a high standard of English comprehension. Their results highlight the support and high standards Korean schools are providing its pupils.
