POSCO CEO LEE RECEIVES AUSTRALIA’S HIGHEST HONOUR
16 March 2006

The CEO of POSCO, Mr Lee Ku-Taek, has been made an honorary Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia, the highest award that Australia bestows.

The Australian Governor-General His Excellency Major-General Michael Jeffery, announced today that Mr Lee had received the award for his outstanding service to Australia-Korea relations through trade and investment.

Australia’s Deputy-Prime Minister and Trade Minister, Mark Vaile, welcomed the announcement.

“Lee Ku-Taek has played an outstanding role in fostering the economic relationship between Australia and the Republic of Korea, both as head of POSCO and in his role as Chairman of the Korea Australia Business Council,” he said.

“POSCO is Australia’s single biggest corporate customer and Mr Lee has guided the company through a critical stage in its evolution into a global company.”

“Under KT Lee’s able leadership, the Korea Australia Business Council has been revitalised over the last four years, and established itself as an active supporter of increased trade and investment between our two countries,” Mr Vaile said.

In 2005, bilateral trade between Australia and the Republic of Korea was over 12 trillion won. Korea was Australia’s fourth-largest trading partner and third-biggest destination for exports.

Mr Lee will receive the award at a yet-to-be-determined date.
