Airline Liaison Officer
The Visa and Immigration Section of the Australian Embassy in Seoul is recruiting a specialist Locally Engaged Staff (LES) employee to undertake the role of Airline Liaison Officer (ALO) based at Incheon airport.
A key strategy to support Australia’s layered approach to border security is the Airline Liaison Officer (ALO) Network. ALOs work with airlines and airport security groups at major overseas airports, as well as colleagues from other countries to prevent the travel of improperly documented passengers and to facilitate the travel of genuine passengers. ALOs train airline and airport staff in document examination and Australia’s entry requirements.
Appointment to the position will be subject to the successful applicant receiving approval to work at Incheon Airport.
The successful applicant will be required to regularly work evenings and weekends, including on public holidays.
Applicants must be a citizen of Australia who can work at a diplomatic mission in the Republic of Korea and who currently holds or can obtain an Australian security clearance.
The position will be filled initially on a 12 month contract from date of commencement and subject to a 3 month probation period.
ALOs report to the Airline Liaison Officer Section in the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC’s) National Office but will be expected to also have a close working relationship with the Visa and Immigration Section at the Australian Embassy in Seoul.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they meet the selection criteria. Applications that fail to address the selection criteria will not be considered.
The salary offered is within the range of KRW 5,988,695 – 6,858,692 per month, (inclusive of an allowance for shiftwork) depending on experience of the successful applicant. Costs of bus transport between Seoul and Incheon Airport will be met.
Please note that all relocation costs are at the expense of the successful applicant - including travel, shipment of personal effects, accommodation and insurance. The successful applicant will also be responsible for obtaining the necessary Korean Government visas and work permit.

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Establish, enhance and maintain Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC’s) relationships with local airlines and airport staff, representatives of host government agencies and with relevant counterparts.
2. Provide advice for airline staff on improper passport and/or visa documentation and facilitate travel for genuine passengers.
3. Train airline staff in document examination techniques and Australia’s visa and entry systems and requirements.
4. Provide timely and detailed reporting to DIAC National Office on passengers intercepted and people smuggling/irregular travel trends.
5. Maintain a visible presence at international airports as a deterrent to potential unauthorised arrivals and people smugglers.
6. Liaise with clients and stakeholders, often in sensitive or complex circumstances, and provide accurate, timely and appropriate advice.

This includes a working knowledge (or the ability to quickly obtain knowledge) of DIAC’s entry and visa requirements and systems, including advance passenger processing and the carrier infringement regime.

• Current Protected security clearance, or ability to obtain such clearance
• Successful completion of a short ALO training program
• Successful completion of DIAC’s document examination principles and facial recognition courses and/or demonstrated competencies in document examination
