2011 Battle of Kapyong Service

Australian and New Zealand Memorial, Gapyeong
The 2011 Battle of Kapyong service will take place on Sunday 24th April at 0900 at the Australian and New Zealand Memorial in Gapyeong (approximately 1 hr 40 minute drive from Seoul). Similar to this year’s Anzac Day Service, this will be an especially large event attended by a large number of Australian and New Zealand Korean War veterans and visiting dignitaries. The service will be followed by a Canadian ceremony at the Canadian monument at 1030 and a Commonwealth march and service in Gapyeong town centre from 1200. All events will be open to the public.
Due to security and parking restrictions, those members of the public intending to attend the service will be required to park their cars at the ROK Army 66th Division Headquarters (see attached map) then utilise the shuttle bus system that will be provided throughout the day. The shuttle service will allow for those attending all or some of the services during the day. To ensure arrival at the monument by 0830, you will need to be at 66th Division by 0815. The timings for the day are:
0900 Australian and New Zealand Service
1030 Canadian Service
1200 Commonwealth veterans’ parade
1230 Commonwealth Service
On completion of the Commonwealth Service there will be a light lunch provided, there is the possibility that some spaces may be available at this lunch for members of the Australian and New Zealand community. Those members of the Australian and New Zealand community requesting to attend the lunch need to provide their name and contact number by email to the Australian Assistant Defence Attaché Lieutenant Commander Chris Smith at [email protected] or the New Zealand Defence Attaché office at [email protected]. You will be advised by return email if you have secured a place; only those who receive a confirmation email will be able to attend the lunch.
