   Australian Federal Election 2010

Saturday 21 August 2010

The Australian Government has called a Federal Election for Saturday 21 August 2010. If you are enrolled on the Commonwealth Electoral Roll, and you will be out of Australia on polling day, you may either VOTE IN PERSON or APPLY FOR A POSTAL VOTE. You will need to know which Australian address you are currently enrolled at in order to be issued with the correct ballot papers for your electorate. You can check your enrolment at www.aec.gov.au or by calling +61 2 6271 4411.

Voting in Person

The Australian Embassy in Seoul will be open for early voting from:
Monday 9 to Friday 13 August (inclusive) 9.00am to 4.00pm
Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 August (inclusive) 9.00am to 4.00pm

By voting early, you may avoid queues and delays.

The Australian Embassy in Seoul will also be open on Election Day, Saturday 21 August 2010 from 9.00am until 4.00pm.

Voting will be conducted at the Australia Centre on Level 18 of the Kyobo Building, 1, Jongno 1-ga, Jongno-gu, Seoul 110-714.

Postal Vote

Australian citizens unable to visit an Australian mission in person may cast a vote by post. You must apply for a postal vote in order to have ballot papers sent to you. To apply for a Postal Vote either:
• Download the Postal Vote application on the Australian Electoral Commission’s website at http://www.aec.gov.au/Elections/files/pva-2010.pdf and send the completed form to the Australian Embassy by post or fax on 82 2 2003 0196 or
• Contact the Australian Embassy to request an application form to be sent to you by post.

Your Ballot papers will be sent to you on receipt of your completed application form.

The Australian Embassy in Seoul will not send postal vote applications after 6.00pm, Thursday 19 August.

For security purposes, please bring photographic identification (such as a driver’s licence or passport) when visiting the Embassy to vote.


Enrolment and Eligibility

The deadline for enrolment to vote has now passed. Those who are not enrolled cannot vote in the upcoming Federal Election. If you are an Australian citizen that has been overseas for more than three years, and not currently on the electoral roll, you are not eligible to vote.

Enrolment and voting by Australians who are overseas at the time of the election is not compulsory. If you are not in Australia on Election Day you will not be fined if you do not vote. However, you should complete the overseas identification form available on the Australian Electoral Commission website.

If you are unable to attend an overseas voting centre to complete a postal vote, you should notify the AEC by emailing [email protected].
